Mt. Kailash is a peak in the Kailash range, which is a part of the Transhimalaya in Tibet. The mountain is situated near the source of some of the longest lakes in Asia: the Indus River, the Sutlej River, the Brahmaputra River and the Karnali River. It is considered a sacred place for mainly four religions: Bon, Buddhism, Hinduism and Jainism.

According to the Hindu mythology, Lord Shiva, the destroyer of ignorance and illusion, resides at the summit of Mt. Kailash along with his wife Parvati. Every year, thousands of devotees visit Mt. Kailash in belief that circumambulating Mt. Kailash is a holy ritual which will bring good fortunes.
