Langtang Helicopter Tour in Nepal

Langtang Helicopter Tour in Nepal is short but well-deserving amongst the list of thrilling adventure trips in Nepal. If you want a relatively short trip that includes all the beautiful Himalayas experience then, Langtang Helicopter Tour in Nepal with Simrik Air might be the one. The tour is an exploration of Tamang settlements and the Kyanjin Monastery (3,800m), which is our landing destination. Aerial view of Gosainkunda Lake and visit to Kyanjin Cheese Factory are yet another highlights of the tour. If you are an adrenaline junkie craving to travel unique and discover untapped travel spots in Nepal, then you are in for a treat. A thrilling helicopter to the Himalayas over Langtang National Park ranging from 5,500m to 7,300m is one jaw-dropping experience that is simply not possible to encounter anywhere else.

Langtang region is located approximately 51km north of Kathmandu. It is renowned for the Langtang National Park bordering various flora and fauna. The park contains some of the popular attractions in Nepal such as Gosainkunda Lake which is sacred to Hindus. Travelers from all around the globe pick Langtang for trekking, climbing, and water rafting. While the settlements of the Langtang region were destroyed by an avalanche caused by the earthquake in April 2015, it has gone through numerous renovations signaling a speedy recovery and stronger comeback.

Despite the setbacks, Langtang is still recognized as one of the most loved travel destinations in Nepal. The Langtang National Park is Nepal’s first Himalayan national park and the country’s fourth protected area. The park carries an evergreen beauty of nature containing trees like oak, maple, and pines. Rhododendron flowers bloom all over the forest around the Spring. It is linked with Tibet Autonomous Region, in the north. The boundary follows two of the famous rivers, the Bhote Koshi and the Trishuli River. Langtang Lirung (7,234m), Langtang Ri (7,205m), Dorje Lakpa (6,966m), Loenpo Gang (6,979m), and Changbu (6,781m) are some of the highest peaks from the Langtang mountain range.

The Langtang Helicopter Tour in Nepal starts from the domestic terminal of Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu. The helicopter flight takes approximately one and a half hours for a round trip from Kathmandu to Kyanjin Gompa and back to Kathmandu. After a brief introduction of our captains, they will provide you some detailed safety precautions to be taken as well as ways to handle an emergency. If there is one thing that Simrik Air does not compromise on then that is safety. We take the safety of our travelers very seriously. After some safety briefing, the helicopter takes off leaving the airstrip and heads to the north. Flying over the suburbs of Kathmandu, we continue our flights scoping some satisfying scenery of Langtang national park. The bird’s eye view of pristine Gosainkunda Lake is one unforgettable sight. Different Tamang cultural pilgrimage sites and Tibetan monasteries reflect the ancient Buddhist culture.

Upon landing at Kyanjin Gompa, we will go for a short visit to the Kyanjin Cheese Factory which was established by the Nepal Government to support the Tamang culture and lifestyle. Once you are on the ground, the Buddhist prayer flags welcome you along with beautiful local settlements mostly made by stone and wood. The place is mostly inhabited by Tamang people. With a stopover time of 45min, it will be more than enough for us to interact with a few locals, take some memorable pictures, and visit Tibetan style monasteries enclosed by snow-capped mountains.

The Kyanjin Gompa is the main attraction of the Langtang Helicopter Tour in Nepal, if not, it surely one of the exciting experiences of the trip. The Kyanjin Gompa lies in the foothill of Langtang Lirung, Dorje Lakpa, and Langshisha Ri peaks. Locals state that the monastery is around six centuries old. It is believed that the walls adorning the gompa were brought from Tibet about four centuries ago. The surrounding of Kyanjin Gompa is built with mostly stone and woods giving a natural appearance to the structure. The inside of the gompa is decorated with images and statues of Buddha as well as “Dhomares” which means “the inhabitants of the land of red rocks”. In the center of the gompa, a large frog-shaped rock lies which the locals believe has been there ever since the monastery was built. Some prayer flags, incense, and lamps add up to the serene ambiance of the Kyanjin Gompa. After having our breakfast at Kyanjin, the tour comes to the end as we fly to Kathmandu airport.
