A daring aerial rescue of a Spanish tourist, Mr. Jose Manuel Zapata Lopez, was successfully conducted by Simrik Air on Sunday, December 18th, 2022. The tourist had dislocated his leg while climbing Mt. Ama Dablam.
The rescue operation was led by Pilot-In-Command Capt. Siddartha Jang Gurung, Chhiring Dhenduk Bhote and Ang Tashi Sherpa. Conditions were extremely dangerous, with strong winds and below freezing temperatures.
Simrik Air, one of Nepal’s leading helicopter rescue services, heeded the call for help and dispatched a team of experienced crew members. After a difficult and risky flight in the treacherous conditions, the Simrik Air helicopter navigated its way to the tourist and was able to safely hoist him into the helicopter. The entire rescue mission was conducted in a height of 6300 meters where the helicopter couldnโt land, so the team longlined and rescued Mr. Lopez and his crew members Ms. Diana Maria G. Dominguez, Mr. Ignacio Dezuloaga Grez and Ms. Chhiring Yangil shrepa.
After the successful rescue, Mr. Lopez was brought to Kathmandu for medical treatment. He is reportedly in stable condition and is expected to make a full recovery. The daring rescue was applauded by mountaineers and adventure seekers alike. Many credited Simrik Air for their professional and effective response, hailing them as heroes.
